For its 75th anniversary, a university asset management nonprofit commissioned a book covering its history and its recent successes.
We experimented early on with many different looks and directions for the book, and we landed on a look that incorporates painterly textures and images. The client requested visual references to orchestral music, and we created illustrations and motifs reflecting this direction. We also incorporated subtle visual nods to music throughout, such as in a timeline section, where we used musical note-like shapes and a chart following along in the background that resembles a musical staff.
I guided the process to create the physical book, helping the client choose varnishes, coatings, and inks from the printer to achieve a specific soft-touch look and feel. I then coordinated with the printer while the book was on press and performed press checks and proof approvals.
