I led a team of designers and photographers to create issues of Annual Magazine and Research Report publications for a university ECE department.
Our primary goal was to follow the design language of previous issues while updating the look and streamlining our process. New project workflow revisions resulted in a time savings of up to 40% compared to earlier issues.
We landed on a new, clean look with a heavy emphasis on photography-focused, easy-to-parse layouts. We captured and coordinated photography at locations hundreds of miles apart, and then tied everything together with custom illustrations.
I also coordinated with the printer and was responsible for reviewing and signing off on proofs while the magazines were in production.
These publications were a core element in supporting the department’s reputation and were part of a multi-year effort that led to a 10 point gain in graduate school ratings.
